Farrah Abraham hits back at mom shamers after allowing daughter, 14, to get piercings
"I won’t be shaming my daughter," said the "Teen Mom" star.
Farrah Abraham isn't letting mom shamers have the last word.
Last week, the former "Teen Mom" alum, 31, took to Instagram with a video of her daughter Sophia, getting 6 piercings for her 14th birthday — and it's divided commenters.
"Happy 14th birthday! #SnakeBite and #EarLobe piercing party! 6 piercings later," she captioned the post for her more than 2.8 million followers. "You match your snake [cake]."
In the comments, some fans criticized the reality star's decision.
"There’s a difference in supporting your children during different phases and letting your kid do whatever she wants to her young body so you will feel like a cool mom," someone weighed in.
"She's 14! Not even 16 yet — what is wrong with you!?" another penned. "She needs a parent, not a best friend!"
However, many applauded Abraham for signing off on Sophia's new look.
"Teenage me wished my parents would have been OK with this. I love you supporting what makes her happy," one Instagram user wrote.
"IDK why people are criticizing you for this. Piercings at 14 years old are super normal, and more importantly, they're not permanent," another added. "When her goth phase is over she can simply take the piercings out and move on. You're a good mom for allowing Sophia to express herself through her image — something all teenagers experiment with."
In response to the backlash, Abraham told InTouch: "I won’t be shaming my daughter, I love and support Sophia 100 percent on who and what she wants to become."
"Mom shamers should recognize what some kids will grow out of and what they [will not]. That’s part of a teen journey as I don’t have my belly button piercing anymore," she pointed out.
Abraham added: "I have all the compassion for her as I wish I had as a teen."
