‘Flipping Cute’ Dog Rescued from East River Is Now Waiting for Her Owners to Take Her Home

Officers from the NYPD Special Operations Division’s Harbor Unit on March 30, 2025A lost dog was safely rescued from the East River in New York on Sunday, March 30, a New York Police Department (NYPD) representative confirms with PEOPLE.
On Sunday, around 8:10 a.m., the NYPD received a 911 call for a dog in the water near the South Street Seaport.
NYPD Special Operations Division’s Harbor Unit immediately responded to the scene to pull the dog from the water. After the rescue, officers took the dog to Pier 16, where they wrapped her in a warm blanket.

Afterward, the officers took photos of the dog as she patiently waited in their arms, wrapped in a blanket. Despite being soaked from head to toe, she still wore her hot pink harness.
The dog is safe and uninjured, but she hasn’t been returned to her home because her owner still hasn’t claimed her. In the meantime, she will remain at the Animal Care Centers of NYC.
Animal Care Centers of NYC spokesperson Katy Hansen confirmed to PEOPLE that, for the time being, the pup was named “Hudson." Hansen said Hudson, who "is so flipping cute," is likely a 1- or 2-year-old Maltese.
Hansen confirmed that Hudson did not have any form of identification and wasn't microchipped or wearing a dog license. Hansen added that Hudson is behaving well and isn't bothered by other dogs.
"The staff and volunteers love her," she continued. "It's amazing that nobody has come forward to claim her yet. She seems to be well looked after and enjoys the company of people."
