As Canadians continue to remain indoors and comply with social distancing and self-isolation guidelines, more and more people are relying on grocery delivery services. Not only do they offer convenient, time-saving solutions for families juggling both home and work responsibilities, but they also offer a surefire way for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions to receive the essentials they need without stepping into a physical store.

Most delivery services operate through online ordering systems, where customers can select the food and other home necessities they need and schedule the time and day of delivery — ranging from same-day to regular weekly or monthly subscriptions (often depending on the company you chose). But due to the current high demand for supplies, customers should expect to experience longer than usual wait times.

When shopping online, experts urge against panic shopping and to purchase supplies that will last up to two weeks.

“It is easier on the supply chain if people gradually build up their household stores instead of making large-scale purchases all at once. To do this, you can add a few extra items to your grocery cart every time you shop,” reads a statement from the Public Health Agency of Canada.

“Your plan should include shopping for supplies that you should have on hand at all times.”
