New Fort Worth-area restaurants to try now: Italian, Mediterranean, Texas barbecue

A standout Italian restaurant with Texas roots is open in Fort Worth, an old Mediterranean favorite returns and an Arlington barbecue stand gets a new home, all kicking off a busy season of dining openings.

Bocca Osteria Romana, a second location for a highly rated restaurant from Puerto Rico, is open down the side alley at 411 S. Main St.

The owners, the Salvatore family, started in McAllen, Texas, and spent summers with family members in Rome before opening one of the leading Italian restaurants in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The menu features osso buco, pasta Amatriciana, cacio e pepe and in many other styles, plus lasagna and gnocchi.

The restaurant is tentatively open Tuesdays through Sundays for lunch or brunch and dinner, but does not have the state permit to serve liquor yet.

Look for Emporium Pies and then wander down the side alley. Or park on Bryan Avenue and come in past Roots Coffeehouse; 817-386-4812, instagram.com/boccasanturce.

King Tut, Tres Amigos restaurants reopen

King Tut, a 32-year favorite on the Near Southside for shawarma and falafel, is open in its new location, 508 W. Rosedale St. in the Hemphill Crossing shopping center.

The new location is more of a take-out counter than the old restaurant on West Magnolia Avenue. But the sparsely decorated dining room has seven tables, not too different from the old front room.

It’s open for lunch and dinner weekdays and Saturdays. No alcohol is sold or allowed — another reason to order takeout; 817-335-3051 (not yet updated), kingtutegyptian.com.

Also new on the southside: Tres Amigos Tacos & Tequila is open, 909 W. Magnolia Ave.

It’s open for breakfast through dinner daily; 682-224-2554, tresamigostacosandtequila.com.
