Bal D'afrique
This is what I imagine Belle's library in Beauty and the Beast smells like – specific and niche, I appreciate.
It starts off quite sweet, thanks to notes of juicy peach and rich plum, but the vanilla, leather and musk elements quickly take over to leave you with a rich floral. This gives me a cosied-up by the fire with a leather-bound old book vibe.
If you're a fan of Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Baccarat Rouge 540, you're going to love this.
Gypsy Water
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has mentioned this is her go-to fragrance and I can see why. The earthy cocktail mixes pine needles, sandalwood and zesty lemon, without being too sharp for the senses. It's exactly what I imagine an Italian cool girl smells like.
It's not overbearing and leaves you smelling clean and cosy. Its simplicity is comforting and calming – this is never going to be one to induce a fragrance headache, no matter how many spritzes you douse yourself with. It's not hard to see why it's Byredo's bestseller.
Mojave Ghost
If you loved the freshness the Marc Jacobs Daisy fragrance collection had to offer when you were younger, this is along the same lines but a lot more sophisticated– a perfume big sister, if you will.
Inspired by the Californian desert, this combines powdery violet with warm amber, musky ambrette and crisp cedarwood, making for a subtle creamy scent. The best part? The dry down – it's where the woody notes really come into play. Think of your traditional skin scent but with a lot more lasting power.
Slow Dance
Bottling a steamy summer dance in the heat sounds impossible (and possibly quite odd) but bear with me.
It's heady, yummy and sexy all at the same time. With notes of sweet vanilla, fresh patchouli and violet, I thought this would be either too sickly or too subtle for my taste, but it's one of those fragrances you can't stop sniffing. The cognac adds something warm and rich into the mix, that's intoxicating from the get-go. Plus, it sticks around all day, too.
Desert Dawn
If you prefer woody and spicy scents, you'll wanna spritz Desert Dawn all over. The fragrance has a lot of depth to it, but it's beautifully balanced making it a very wearable scent.
It opens with the sweet spice of cardamom and then rounds off with the warmth of sandalwood. It's a very rich scent at the heart, but it lingers in the air with rose petals and carrot to give it a crisp edge. Wear this on a first date or classy evening about town.
Young Rose Eau de Parfum
Straight out of the Columbia Road flower market, this sprightly scent is overflowing with freshly bloomed roses and is a must for any floral lover.
The bouquet-worthy notes are mixed with musk, Sichuan pepper and ambrette seeds, which make for an invigorating almost fizzy fragrance – think a freshly popped bottle of champagne.
1996 Eau de Parfum
Love the headiness of a leathery scent? This needs to be added to your collection. With base notes of amber and leather, this is not one for the fainthearted (read: the subtle scent lover), this packs a serious punch.
The woody notes are mixed with powdery iris, violet and patchouli, which all come together for a medicinal-esque fragrance. It's very old-school vintage smelling – it's giving grandma chic.
