Freeland Spirits Is Honoring Women's History Month With a New Gin Made by the Coolest Women in the Industry
Use this to toast the women in your life.
There’s no better time to toast the talented women who have shaped the spirits industry into a more inclusive place than today, International Women's Day. Even better is the fact that there's a new, limited-release gin to pour into your glass, which happens to be from an industry-leading brand founded by women.
Today, Freeland Spirits unveiled Old Tom Gin, a limited edition, 114-proof spirit designed to honor Women’s History Month and support the wide contributions of women in the beverage industry. And it's finished in Uncle Nearest Premium barrels.
“As a female-founded, owned, and led brand, supporting other women entrepreneurs is just in our DNA,” says Uncle Nearest master blender Victoria Butler. Butler is also a two-time recipient of Whisky Magazine's Master Blender of the Year award and the first woman to ever take home the honor. "The Freeland Old Tom Gin is refreshing with hints of honeysuckle and oakiness that come through because of our Uncle Nearest barrels.”

The proof is in the process. Old Tom Gin begins with a base of Freeland’s core Dry Gin, which is primed for additional aging. The juniper-heavy spirit is then placed in Uncle Nearest whiskey barrels, where it rests for six months. The result is a balanced, slightly herbaceous gin with added notes of oak, orange, and sweet caramel.
Butler and Molly Troupe each carved their own spots in spirits history. Butler, who leads the team at Uncle Nearest, is known to be the first Black female master blender in history. Freeland Spirits’ Molly Troupe, likewise, became one of the youngest female master distillers in the world.
“It’s just its own individualized pathway. It can be very isolating,” Troupe says. “When you have a sense of community, there’s a bit less of that.”

They’re continuing that momentum and sense of giving back through the national nonprofit “Regarding Her.” Freeland Spirits is contributing $5 from each bottle of Old Tom Gin to continue uplifting women in the food and beverage industry.
Old Tom Gin will be available for $49.99 on the Freelands Spirits website while supplies last. And we're sure they won't last long.
