The biggest celebrity tequila success story has to be Casamigos, which cofounder George Clooney and his partners sold to drinks giant Diageo for close to a billion dollars in 2017. Clooney’s involvement might not really extend beyond the use of his name and general aura of fame to promote the brand these days, but it seems it was time to collaborate with yet another pretty face—Cindy Crawford—for the launch of the new Casamigas (note the new spelling) Jalapeño Tequila.

According to the brand, tequila is Crawford’s beverage of choice, and she confirmed her love of spicy agave drinks in a statement. “As much as I love Casamigos, my go to drink for a fun night is a skinny, spicy margarita,” she said. “Casamigas Jalapeño makes it that much easier. It’s Casamigos with a kick!” According to Casamigos cofounder Rande Gerber, who also happens to be married to Crawford, this new expression has been six years in the making, though the details are pretty slim. Essentially, Casamigas Jalapeño is the blanco expression, made from 100 percent Blue Weber agave, that has been flavored with—you guessed it—jalapeño peppers. According to the brand (and verified by Tequila Matchmaker), Casamigos is no longer made at a distillery that has a diffuser, and instead the agave pinas are cooked in brick ovens. That being said, there are likely additives used to flavor the tequila, something that is legally allowed up to one percent without being disclosed. The brand doesn’t say if it uses fresh jalapeños or extract or something else for this new expression, only that it’s “naturally flavored.”

Of course, Crawford likely had little to do with the actual liquid in the bottle, but Gerber designed the as sort of an homage to his supermodel wife. The bottle looks like the blanco expression, but the white label has gotten a makeover in red ink with the addition of flames, a jalapeño pepper, a set of lips, Crawford’s signature, and the “o” crossed out and replaced by an “a.” According to the brand, Casamigas Jalapeño is best served as a chilled shot or used in a spicy Margarita.

This new tequila joins the cristalino expression that arrived last summer, which was the first new tequila expression to join the portfolio since 2018 (a mezcal was added in 2019). Casamigas Jalapeño is available now from websites like Total Wine, or at your local liquor store.
