Gerald Durrell commemorative stamp set released
A special edition stamp set to mark the 100th birthday of the late conservationist Gerald Durrell has been issued by Jersey Post.
Mr Durrell opened Jersey Zoo in 1959 and established a charitable trust to oversee the zoo and continue his conservation work in 1963.
The stamps, which were issued on 28 January, are the first in a two part series celebrating Mr Durrell's achievements, Jersey Post said.
The stamp set features images of various endangered species that have benefited from conservation efforts.
'Dedicated conservationist'
Jersey Post said: "Born in India 1925, Gerald 'Gerry' Malcolm Durrell was a dedicated conservationist who devoted his life to protecting and preserving wildlife species around the world.
"His legacy remains through the work of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in aiding many species, some of which are featured in this issue."
The 100 Years of Gerald Durrell: Conservation stamps and souvenir miniature sheet would be available from all branches of Jersey Post, it added.
