Gigi Hadid’s off-duty street style ticks off three of AW23's biggest trends
You don't need me to tell you the weather this year has been somewhat confusing. And all of a sudden we've ended up in November – seriously, where have the months gone? – and I can't remember how to dress for winter *at all*. Should I wear my snuggly winter coat or stay dry in a waterproof trench? What's a warmer layer, a cropped cardigan or a knitted vest?
Luckily, my favourite celebrities are here to help (or rather, their stylists are) serving up endless autumnal outfit inspo. From Kate Middleton, who's rocking Burberry quilted jackets and wax Barbour designs with cropped flare jeans and chunky-soled ankle boots, to Kendall Jenner who's nailing evening wear in a fluffy coat with white thigh-high leather boots.
But it's Gigi Hadid's latest look that has really got me in a chokehold, and I'm already planning how to recreate her 'fit.
Gigi was seen out and about in New York yesterday, perhaps visiting the recently opened debut flagship store for her knitted cashmere brand, Guest in Residence, if the shopping bags in her hand were any suggestion. For the occasion, she wore a super stylish look that the entire Cosmo Fashion Team immediately fell in love with consisting of an oversized leather jacket, black jeans and loafers. As well as possessing that effortlessly cool feel, Gigi's look also ticked off three of this season's biggest trends. So, let's break down her ensemble.
First up, the jacket. If you ask us, a leather jacket is a wardrobe essential. The perfect throw-on layer to almost every outfit. In this instance, over a white and blue longline knit jumper. We love the boxy oversized fit of Gigi's, as well as the rich espresso brown hue – AW23's update on black leather.
The second trend in question is Gigi's footwear of choice. Loafers are big news this season, spotted on the feet of Blake Lively, Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner in the past couple of months. Gigi opted for a preppy take on the trend *and* ensured her tootsies stayed nice and toasty by styling hers with white socks.
And finally, it's all about the accessories. Namely, the striped scarf Gigi draped elegantly over one shoulder. Yep, the AW23 runways heralded the return of the maxi scarf as seen at Gabriela Hearst, Louis Vuitton, Marni, Michael Kors, Burberry and The Row. Sunglasses, a charm necklace and an XL claw clip holding her tightly in a slicked-back updo completed the look.
Yep, I told you, she's a style icon. I know what I'll be wearing this weekend.
