Last season, Sofia Richie sat in the front row at Jeremy Scott’s show. This year, she returned — to strut the catwalk for the designer’s Spring/Summer 2018 show during New York Fashion Week on Friday night. Although it wasn’t exactly Richie’s first time on the runway (the young model’s major NYFW debut was at Yeezy in 2016), it was still a huge moment for the Richie family as her father, Lionel Richie, sat beaming at his daughter while documenting the moment on Instagram. The appearance was a big one for Richie’s fashion week modeling career, as Scott’s show has always included a star-studded modeling cast, and this year proved to be no different.
Model Gigi Hadid dashed over from walking in Brandon Maxwell’s show earlier in the evening to walk in Jeremy Scott’s. But seasoned catwalk models — Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Devon Aoki, Coco Rocha, and Liberty Ross — dominated the show.
Lionel Richie sat in the front row alongside Vanessa Hudgens and her boyfriend, Austin Butler; actresses Ashley Benson and Isabela Moner; and artist Young Paris. Speaking of Paris, the Hilton sisters — Paris and Nicky — were also present, clad in bling and studded apparel à la Jeremy Scott’s trademark style.
Highlights from the collection included all of the sequin apparel, from hoodies to trousers and even a full silver sequin bodysuit worn by Coco Rocha that is reminiscent of the Gucci version Rihanna wore to Coachella earlier this year. Scott did not hold back from his trademark cheeky streetwear-meets-high-fashion aesthetic for the spring line — mixtures of denim with tulle, cartoon imagery, and pleated trains hanging off of backpacks and jackets that all somehow worked.
If you don’t know by now, this was exactly what people expect from Jeremy Scott, who is celebrating more than 20 years in the biz: a show that was vibrant, colorful, street influenced, playful, and provocative.
