This Girl Scout Who Stood Up to a Neo-Nazi Is Just What the World Needs Right Now

Regardless of what political party you're a party of, there are certain things that all good people can agree on: that we should treat one another with kindness and respect, and that it's despicable to commit hate crimes or consider a person subhuman because of their race, religion, sex, or ethnicity. It's a understanding that comes easily to children, but one that is often forgotten by adults. And when we see someone being harassed or abused, and want to speak up, so often we stay silent out of fear.

Which is perhaps why this photo of a Girl Scout named Lucie standing up to a neo-Nazi at an extreme right rally in Brno, Czech Republic, on May 1, is going viral. According to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), Lucie is part of the Junák - český skaut - the Czech version of the Girl Scouts, who were there to "express their support for values of diversity, peace and understanding. Creating a better world!"

The photo, taken by Vladimír Čičmanec, is incredible as it shows the little girl calmly defending herself against the obvious anger of a neo-Nazi in dark shades, the iridescent bubbles innocently framing her face floating in stark contrast to the heavily armed SWAT officer behind her.

Other photos show her and the Scouts holding up banners with the Scout's motto, "We will raise your children."

This goes to show that some of the biggest heroes come in the smallest sizes.
