New golf course has landed in Myrtle Beach area. Here’s where it’s at and what it offers

A new mini golf course has landed in Surfside Beach.

Mulligan’s Lagoon, anchored by a giant yellow airplane, is a surfer-themed, 18-hole course with tiki torches, seashell-studded obstacles and palm trees.

The golf course, at 735 Highway 17 S., offers putt-putt, an arcade and a pizza parlor.

This is the second Mulligan’s Lagoon for the Professor Hacker’s group that has been in the amusement business for 30 years. The other location is in Daytona Beach, Florida, said Chris Bethea, the managing member of the group.

The group also owns three other courses in North Myrtle Beach area - Professor Hacker’s Lost Treasure Golf, 1705 Highway 17 S; Professor Hacker’s Dinosaur Adventure Golf, 701 Highway 17 S.; and Professor Hacker’s Mayday Golf, 715 Highway 17 N.

Bethea said the decision to open the mini golf course fills a need for an amusement spot in Surfside Beach.

“The water park closed down, and so there seemed to be a void for family entertainment,” Bethea said. “Surfside’s motto is ‘The family beach’ and we’re all about families. We’re all about smiles and having fun.”

The Wild Water and Wheels water park closed in 2022.

Bethea, who lives in Myrtle Beach, said the company operates 12 mini golf courses in seven states, he said.
