NYFW bag trends have ranged from the wild to the practical and even, on occasion, the wildly impractical, throughout the years, but rarely do all designers seem to be on the same page, accessories-wise. The Fall/Winter 2024 collections seem set to change all that as one major bag trend has emerged as heir apparent to last year’s inescapable mini bags. Spoiler Alert: You’ll actually be able to fit your phone and your keys in this one.

No shade to the hands-free stalwarts of seasons past like the tote and crossbody, but this year is all about the top-handle bag. Designers like Khaite and Collina Strada delivered slender, shapely silhouettes while Anna Sui and AREA opted for funky prints and playful 3D adornments. While sizes ranged from the diminutive and wristlet-adjacent at Ulla Johnson to roomy and satchel-like at Libertine, the top-handle approach stayed center-stage.

Ahead, we’ve rounded up the best of the best iterations of this runway-ruling trend.

During the Khaite NYFW runway show, we found ourselves wondering if vintage car collectors swoon over the curves of Corvettes the same way we swooned over this top handle bag's slightly exaggerated and ever so chic silhouette.

Anna Sui's Fall/Winter 2024 collection delivered a masterclass in eclectic opulence thanks to its sequin-spangled top-handle bags.

Sealed with a kiss. While Libertine's Fall/Winter 2024 runway show featured a handful of top-handle silhouettes, we were especially enamored with the fashion house's swooping and shapely red-lip printed bag.

Bring on the boxes. At Kim Shui, a classic rectangular top-handle bag paired with cream-colored racing gloves made waves.

Bucket bags are a top-handle classic and we love the casual, but elevated approach Ulla Johnson took with its dainty drawstring purse.

Ludovic De Saint Sernin's take on the top-handle bag had a distinctly vintage vibe, harkening back to the baguette bags of the aughts.
