This Gourmet Chocolate Advent Calendar Is So Good, I Finished It Before Christmas (Whoops!)

High-quality, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate is always in season. But something about the holidays makes me want to run to my favorite chocolate shop to snag all the exciting seasonal flavors before it’s too late. Unfortunately for me, my favorite chocolate shop in the whole world is in St. Louis — my hometown that I only visit a couple of times a year. So while I can’t head there whenever I want to partake in the wintery flavors, Compartes’ new advent calendar has offered me an elegant substitution: a beautiful package housing seasonally flavored chocolates that match the quality of my hometown chocolate shop’s treats.

There are actually three chocolate advent calendars on Compartes’ website (although one is already sold out), but the one I tested is the Winter Foxes Advent Calendar (which is still in stock — don’t worry). And to my surprise and delight, it is even more stunning in person than I thought it would be. It’s filled with 24 indulgent chocolate candies. Plus, the packaging is unmatched. It’s genuinely so beautiful and lends a truly luxe feel. Honestly, I already can’t wait to repurchase this advent calendar again next year.

What Is the Compartes Winter Foxes Chocolate Advent Calendar?

The Winter Foxes Chocolate Advent Calendar is filled with 24 beautiful chocolates, so you can eat one every day up until Christmas (or you can eat a bunch at a time … like I did). Each advent calendar from the brand houses different flavors, and this one has some cozy classics like Cookies & Cream, Campfire S’mores, and Spiced Gingerbread. Not to mention, there are some more exciting flavors I haven’t seen in a box of chocolates before like Salted Caramel Bomboloni, Linzer Cookie, and Blackberry Crumble.

Now, you won’t necessarily get a brand-new flavor each day. There are 24 chocolates but only 16 flavors in the advent calendar, so there are eight flavors you’ll end up getting to enjoy twice (which I did not mind at all, as some of my faves were repeated in my calendar). Of all the flavors, my favorites were the cozy, warm Cinnamon Bun, the tart-yet-sweet Linzer, and the buttery Salted Caramel Bomboloni.

Why I Love the Compartes Winter Foxes Chocolate Advent Calendar

There is true magic within this advent calendar. There is no other advent calendar that I would describe as an experience, but this one absolutely is. Not only are the chocolates themselves indulgent and exciting to discover as you go along, but also the packaging is absolutely breathtaking. I really appreciate how the packaging and chocolates come together to tell the enchanting story of these little arctic foxes discovering (and sharing with you) a chocolate-studded utopia. Because of that, this advent calendar feels like a cozy bedtime story told over the course of 24 days (unless you eat them quicker than that, of course).

And yes, Compartes’ advent calendars are on the pricier side, given they’re $110 each. But as someone who really values high-quality candy, I believe it’s worth the price. Truly, I loved the chocolates. You can tell they’re made with good-quality dark chocolate that is tempered well, which imparts a nice shine to the outside of the chocolates. And that outer shell gives way to decadent interiors housing an array of thoughtful flavors.

I tried all the chocolates over the course of a week for the purpose of testing this calendar (and also because I have very little self-control around candy), and I can honestly say I was constantly excited to try more. One thing that’s really handy is that on the back of the packaging, there’s a key that tells you each chocolate’s flavor. I absolutely despise boxes of chocolates that make you guess what you’re eating, so I adored this little detail. Each chocolate features a different picture on it, like a fox or a key or a moon, so you can easily determine which one is which.

As much as I loved the chocolates, I have to really drive home how absolutely gorgeous the packaging is. I still haven’t thrown the box away because I just love looking at the deep saturated tones, twinkly stars, and cute foxes. It truly feels like a work of art.

If I was only going to buy one advent calendar this season, it would be this Compartes one because of its gorgeous design, indulgent chocolates, and inherent feeling of childlike whimsy that had me wishing for even more chocolates after I’d finished them all.
