'Grey’s Anatomy' Star Jesse Williams Got Vocal About Ellen Pompeo’s Season 19 News

After having left his position at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Jesse Williams isn't too worried about major changes occurring to the show that jump-started his career.

Just a few days after ABC announced that Grey's Anatomy leading actress Ellen Pompeo will only appear in eight episodes in season 19, her former co-star spoke out about her big career choice. While some fans may think this is the end of an era for the hit medical drama, the man behind Dr. Jackson Avery revealed he has no qualms about the future of the show, including Ellen's potential involvement in later seasons.

"That woman has worked so hard all year, every year for 20 years for that franchise," Jesse told E!'s Daily Pop on August 10. "Whatever time she takes off is well-earned, and I'm sure they have a master plan."

As for Grey's Anatomy fans, many were excited to hear about her next acting project. According to Deadline, Ellen will be busy working on a Hulu limited series when she's not starring as the titular character on the alphabet network.

"Happy to see her in another role!" one fan wrote on Instagram. "SO PROUD!!! ❤️," another viewer replied. "Good for her!!!" a different person commented.

Speaking of the new season, we know Grey's Anatomy has major plans involving five new residents, who will likely shaking things up at Grey Sloan. Although it's thrilling to see what happens to new characters, this would be a good time to figure out other characters' statuses on the show — including Jackson Avery himself.

Longtime fans may remember Jesse's exit from Grey's in 2021 after spending 12 years at Grey Sloan Memorial. While he's since returned to the show alongside a rekindled romance with Sarah Drew, a.k.a. Dr. April Kepner, the Tony Award winner is not ruling out reprising his role, albeit in a slightly different capacity.

"That thing would probably write itself and do very, very well," he told Daily Pop about whether he'd be game for Jackson and April to have their own Shondaland spinoff series. "And [Sarah]'s the best. She's one of my single favorite people on the planet."

Hey, at least there's still hope for Japril to be endgame once more!
