Guides work with street artists on town mural
Members of a Surrey girlguiding group have been working with street artists to create a large-scale community mural celebrating local women.
Epsom Girlguiding Division and graffiti art company Positive Arts are working together on a "vibrant" display in Epsom town centre depicting significant women from the area, Epsom and Ewell Borough Council said.
The council said the mural was "dramatically improving the aesthetics" of the alleyway behind the Ebbisham Centre, "which previously looked tired and in-need of renovation".
Girlguiding Surrey East's assistant county commissioner Mary Zoeller said: “This is an exciting and rare opportunity for local girlguiding members."
Ms Zoeller said the artwork would "shine a light on some incredible, inspirational women".
The mural will include writers Lady Sybil Grant and Isabella Beeton, musical conductor Kathleen Riddick and postal worker Nora Willis.
The community mural is being led by the council’s arts, culture and heritage team and is being funded via the UK Shared Prosperity fund.
It is hoped the mural will be finished by Wednesday.
