Guy Fieri Marks First Birthday without His Dad: 'I Wanna Call Him All the Time'

Guy Fieri’s 57th birthday was a bittersweet day.

The Food Network star’s celebratory day on Wednesday, Jan. 22, also marked his first birthday since his dad Jim Ferry died. Jim died on Jan. 27, 2024 at the age of 81.

“First birthday I’ve celebrated without my dad ‘Jamps,’” the Tournament of Champions host wrote on his Instagram Stories. “I wanna call him all the time and ask questions, help me solve issues or celebrate the wins. Wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him and it's hard to be here without him.”

“One tour one round one chance make it count!” the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives star concluded the post. The sentimental message was shared with a picture of himself with Jim, Guy’s mom Penny, nephew Jules and sons Hunter and Ryder.

The celebrity chef also acknowledged his “one of a kind” mom in a social media post on Wednesday.

“This is the one to blame or celebrate lol,” he wrote in the caption with several photos of his mother. Calling his birthday “birthing day” in the post, Guy continued to compliment Penny: “My wonderful effervescent superstar red headed wonder MY mom Penny. She has been through it all and still wakes up and celebrates life everyday with a smile and a laugh.”

Other members of the Fieri family took to Instagram to wish the cookbook author a happy birthday.

Guy’s younger son Ryder, 19, shared a photo of his dad with Steph Curry on his Instagram Stories and wrote “Happy birthday dad❤️❤️Love you❤️” His other son Hunter, 28, shared pictures with his father and wrote, “Happy Birthday Pops! Thank you for being an amazing father, leader, and best friend! Looking forward to another great year together. Love you dad ❤️Cheers! Let’s have some @huntrydewine 🍷🙌” Similarly, Hunter’s fiancée Tara Bernstein posted, “happy birthday to the man who’s all about family, cheers to another great year” on her Instagram Stories.

In September, Guy opened up about his grief during an interview on In Depth with Graham Bensinger.

“The funny thing is, out of everything that's happened, it has made me probably 10 times closer to my mom,” he said. “Not that my mom and I have not always been super close, but we've been close… in that we're so similar in personality that there was a little bit of...it's like when you're too close to the person that you can almost be little smart asses together.”

He continued, “But it was just this, like I never had to really talk to my mom about stuff as much as I talked to him about stuff. And so since this has happened, my mom and I have become like uber close. I could not be more proud of my mom. I mean what a warrior. 56 years she was married to this guy and then gone."
