Guy Fieri, 'Mayor Of Flavortown,' Was Just Named Mayor Of His Hometown
Guy Fieri has long held the title as Mayor of Flavortown, and now the Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives host is stepping into another mayoral role—only, this time, for a real town.
Earlier this week, the town of Ferndale, California (Fieri's hometown) announced plans to celebrate its local celeb by naming him honorary mayor. On April 5, which has officially been dubbed Guy Fieri Day in Ferndale, the Food Network star will receive his new title.
"What a great honor,” Fieri told the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce in response to the news. "I was so surprised to be all the way in New York City and receive the news about Guy Fieri Day. I am proud and feel that Ferndale is with me everywhere I go."
Fieri has long been celebrated in his hometown for his success in the food industry and philanthropic efforts. He's has made it his mission to feed firefighters and other first responders during emergencies and even started the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund during the pandemic, which ultimately raised $20 million for those affected.
According to Visit Ferndale, Fieri received the key to the city in 2012 and has raised money for the Ferndale Museum, Ferndale Elementary School, and other local causes in the past. He certainly hasn't forgotten his roots and appears at the Humboldt County Fair each year for his Surf & Turf BBQ competition. Fieri even took his DDD series on the road to Ferndale.
"Now, therefore, I, Randall Cady, as Mayor, and on behalf of the City Council of the City of Ferndale, proclaim April 5, 2024, and every April 5 thereafter, Guy Fieri Day and on this day, the title of Honorary Mayor. We thank Guy for his positive impact on the City," the official proclamation reads.
"Mr. Fieri has always had a special connection to Ferndale since he started his very own pretzel cart at the age of 10 [and] has continued to give back to our community through serving thousands of meals to hospital workers and firefighters as well as co-creating the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund."
