Hailey Baldwin says she wouldn't 'ever' pose nude

Hailey Baldwin won't ever pose naked but she gives "props" to anyone who is comfortable baring all.

This week, the 24-year-old model and wife of Justin Bieber sat down with Insecure actress Yvonne Orji, 37, for a conversation about love and religion, posted to her YouTube channel. Both women are outspoken about their beliefs — Orji became a born-again Christian in college and said in 2017 that she intended to remain a virgin until marriage, while Baldwin, who is an evangelical Christian, credits her religion with sustaining her marriage of two-and-a-half years.

"You're an actress. You're on this show where you are doing sex scenes and cursing and doing things that a lot of people who are Christian would probably see that and be like, 'Oh, well you're not a real Christian, because you're doing sex scenes and you're doing this,'" Baldwin told Orji. "In a similar way sometimes, like for my job, I have to show skin or I'll get photographed in underwear or lingerie. And people are like, 'Well that's not a good representation because you're not modest and you're not this.'"

Baldwin has taken hits for her faith, specifically in 2019 when she was called "un-Christian" for asking social media followers for Halloween costume ideas, due to the holiday's association with the depiction of mythical archetypes.

Baldwin added, "I wouldn't want to ever be shot naked but props to any woman that's comfortable doing that."

Orji, whose book Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me Into the Life of My Dreams was published in May, agreed, reflecting on a sex scene involving her character Molly in the HBO series. "I had been telling [executives] all season, 'Y'all know I can't show my areola' … I also knew I couldn't go in there and be like, 'I'm a Christian, I love Jesus' for fears that she would be recast, although she ultimately found a happy medium, albeit with criticism from fellow Christians.

"Your relationship with God is not going to be the same as mine," observed Baldwin. "We all have different relationships and ways that we relate to the Bible and relate to Jesus."

Baldwin also talked about how it feels to be criticized by self-described religious fans. "If I end up seeing a comment that's like, 'You're this' and then I click on their page and it's like … god-fearing woman, I'm just like, 'Huh?'" she said, adding, "I've met Christian people that are just super-judgmental and made me feel like I'm a bad person because I don't live my life the way they think I should live my life and I felt weird about posting certain photos of myself, for feeling like people in the church are going to see this. Am I doing something? Am I setting a bad example? And the reality is, no."

The women also tackled the lack of nuance on sexual topics in a religious community, with Baldwin saying that she was raised to save sex for marriage.

Baldwin and Bieber abstained from having sex with each other until they wed, having gotten together when the pop star had already decided to live a celibate lifestyle. "I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul," Bieber told Vogue in 2019. "And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior."
