Hailey Bieber and Your Grandma Both Love This Cozy Winter Trend

In case you were unaware, the cool girls are all doing babushka-core this winter, and that includes Hailey Bieber. Instead of hats, we’re tying knit scarves around our heads to keep warm like grannies. (Babushka translates to “old woman” or “granny” in Russian.) You can wear a regular scarf over your head or, like Bieber, you can opt for a smaller, bandana-size scarf designed specifically for the trendy, babushka-like look.

On January 29, Bieber was photographed in New York City with her gray headscarf worn over her ears and also around her neck. She paired the knit outerwear accessory with a matching gray crewneck cardigan, plus baggy khaki pants and a classic khaki trench coat. For footwear, the model opted for low-profile black loafers worn with white socks, naturally. Her black leather tote matched the shoes, and a diamond watch added just a touch of sparkle to the look.

If this gray scarf is not exactly the same, it is at least quite similar to the knitted headscarf Bieber modeled for her Instagram followers in November 2024. In an IG story, Bieber posted a picture of herself with the small knit scarf tied loosely around her head and seeming to match her knit t-shirt. We’ve also seen this headscarf outerwear trend on Ariana Grande, who wrapped her head in a pale pink balaclava while Christmas tree shopping with boyfriend Ethan Slater.

This isn’t just a winter-specific trend, as Bieber herself proved when she and Justin Bieber renewed their vows last summer. In a video of the ceremony shared to Instagram, which also served as the couple’s pregnancy announcement, Hailey wears a lace headscarf tied under her chin like she’s a ’60s movie star.

Take it from Hailey Bieber: We’re done with grandpa-core. We’ve moved on. We’re dressing like grandmas now.
