Here's why Meghan Markle most likely won't be named Prince Louis's godmother

While the royal family prepares for Prince Louis’s July 9 christening, many are wondering if Meghan Markle will be named godmother.

However, British bookmakers aren’t betting on Markle to make the cut.

In a statement to People magazine, a representative for bookmakers Ladbrokes revealed, “As with George and Charlotte, [William and Kate] chose close and trusted friends and aides, rather than immediate family members, and the odds suggest that will be the same with little Prince Louis.”

Despite the fact that Prince George has seven godparents and Princess Charlotte has five, Ladbrokes may be onto something — Prince Harry wasn’t chosen as godfather to either child.

However, if there’s anything we’ve learned following Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship, it’s that the royal family is changing, and perhaps The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be willing to bend to include their sister-in-law as little Louis receives his sacrament.

The two-month-old prince will be baptized at 4 p.m. GMT at St. James’s Palace, the same place where older brother Prince George and Markle were baptized into the Church of England.

On this week’s episode of our all-royals podcast, Make it Reign, we’re diving into royal christenings and the traditions Britain’s most famous family must follow.

From water straight from the River Jordan, to a $20,000 CAD baptismal font – nothing the royal family does is every low-key.
