Here's when to take your winter tires off for spring — plus the best tires you can shop on eBay
Avoid damaging your tires as warmer temperatures rise.
Lately, we've been experiencing some warmer temperatures in Canada. You know what that means — spring is finally on its way. For many of us living in provinces where winter tires are essential, this seasonal transition brings up the question of when to switch back to all-season or summer tires to optimize tread life. It's important to make the switch at the right time to avoid any damage. Not sure when to swap 'em out? Let's dive into the basics.

When should I change my winter tires?
Winter tires are made with a certain rubber that maintains flexibility no matter how cold the weather — even below zero. However, they're solely designed for snow, ice and cold temperatures. So, as warmer weather sets in, tires can become too soft, increasing the risk of damage, especially when driving at higher speeds.
Canadian drivers should generally change to all-season tires when temperatures are consistently 7°C or higher for at least three days before swapping.
Before you bid farewell to your winter tires for the season, be sure to give them a quick visual inspection. If there are severe cuts or excessive wear, check the tread depth — if it looks worn, it might be time to change to your all-season set a bit earlier than planned to prevent damage in the summertime.
How do I store winter tires?
Proper care is essential if you want to preserve your tires and keep them in the best shape to last longer. First things first, make sure you clean them with a tire brush and soapy water once you've removed them from your vehicle.
Once they're completely dry, continue to bag them separately (shop tire storage bags) and ensure they're properly sealed.
For storage, it's best to keep them hibernating in a dry, cool area — like a garage or basement. And don't keep it close to your furnace or water heater.
If they have rims, store them beside each other, and if they don't, simply stack them on top of each other. To reduce pressure on one spot, you can change their positioning every month or so.
