Hillary Clinton Wears Kimono-like Caftan for Japanese State Dinner at the White House
Hillary Clinton was among a string of famous guests who attended the White House state dinner for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko Kishida on Wednesday. The former U.S. Secretary of State was joined by her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
For the event, Hillary fashioned a flowing purple and pink caftan. The fabric draped over the former Secretary of State with ease, featuring billowing sleeves and an ornately patterned design. Gold details were featured throughout the ensemble, blending the plum and pink hues together in seamless fashion.

Hillary completed the look with pointed-toe shoes and accessorized with delicate jewelry, including a simple string necklace and sparkling studs. The former first lady has fashioned caftan looks in the past, including a dazzling powder blue look embellished with crystals she wore to the 2022 Venice Film Festival.
For the White House state dinner, however, Hillary’s caftan mirrored a colorscape also worn by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. As hostess for the evening’s festivities, Dr. Biden fashioned a glittering Oscar de la Renta gown from the fashion label’s fall 2024 collection. The sapphire ombré art nouveau crystal embroidered dress featured a cascading purple hue on the bodice of the gown, which perfectly complemented the purple gown worn by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s wife Yuko Kishida.
Other notable fashion highlights from the evening included Lauren Sánchez’s burgundy Rasario gown from the 2024 resort collection, which featured lightweight satin with two types of lace for a sculpted figure with corset inserts.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden’s state dinner for Japan is the fifth the couple has hosted at the White House since President Biden took office in January 2021. The event included a bevy of high-profile guests, including Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff, Robert De Niro and Tiffany Chen and Paul Simon, among others.
