This Historic 1920s Estate in Santa Barbara Can Be Yours for $25 Million
A historic Santa Barbara home known as Oakhaven Estate is on the market for the first time in 65 years. Listed for $25 million, the sprawling Spanish Colonial Revival-style residence was previously owned by the late Constance McCormick Fearing, a member of Santa Barbara’s prominent McCormick family.
The 17-acre Romero Canyon area property was built in 1927 by the renowned architect Robert Spurgeon Jr., a graduate of the iconic Beaux Arts Institute in Paris. His inspiration came from his many global travels throughout Asia and Europe, and he also designed several properties in the Spanish Revival style—Santa Barbara’s most popular style of architecture.

The well-preserved estate is ensconced by rolling hills, mature oaks, and incredible landscaping that makes it feel like a veritable oasis. The home sits at the end of a long, winding driveway that’s flanked by canopies of mature oak trees.
The 7,127-square-foot home has six bedrooms and five bathrooms, as well as oversized living spaces with many original details. Several rooms feature period-style detailing unique to the 1920s, like the wood-paneled fireside library. There are original floors, hand-carved fireplaces, ornate doors, and crown molding that has been well maintained over the years.
The heart of the home is the grand living room with a vaulted, wood-beamed ceiling. Opposite the fireplace, large windows let in plenty of natural light and offer exceptional views of the ocean. Outside, a covered terrace stretches across nearly the entire home, so you’re never too far from the outdoors.
Those seeking a home of a bygone era will love the simplicity of the kitchen, which is like stepping back in time with robin egg blue-colored cabinets. The appliances are already updated, and the future owner can certainly create their dream kitchen. Nearby are a butler’s pantry, a breakfast nook, and a formal dining room with vaulted ceilings.
Down a sunlit hallway is the spacious primary bedroom with southwestern views toward the ocean and access to the terrace from a set of doors. Most of the additional bedrooms are en suite, and an attached two-bedroom wing has its own enclosed patio, perfect for privacy-seeking guests or for future owners to enjoy a quiet reading spot. There’s also an office and a massage room.
Outside, the dreamy property features a variety of tree species, local flora, and ample lawn space with shady pockets underneath the towering trees. There is also a large water feature in the home’s internal courtyard and an outdoor dining area. No matter where you turn, there are quintessential Southern California views, either towards the mountain or the ocean.
The property is listed by Doré O’Neill of Village Properties, part of Forbes Global Properties.
Santa Barbara and its even tonier next-door neighbor Montecito are known for their upper-echelon residents, like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Billionaires and A-list celebrities, including Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, and Rob Lowe, among many others, also maintain property in the area.
