Hoda Kotb reveals that her daughters don’t know what dieting is.

On the June 5 episode of her podcast, Making Space, the Today with Hoda and Jenna host, 59, recalled a question her older daughter Haley, 7, recently posed.

“My mom and my sister and I were talking, and my sister said something about going on a diet, “ the mother of two recalled. “And Haley, who’s 7, said, ‘What’s a diet?'... She [doesn’t] know because we’ve never said it.”

Kotb decided the best way to go about the question was to quickly change the topic, so she didn’t “make a thing out of it”

"I didn’t say a word. I wasn’t like, 'We don’t talk about that in our house.' You know, I just let it ride,” she said.

While she doesn’t directly discuss dieting, Kotb explained the importance of making sure her daughters know that there’s beauty in imperfection.

"I was thinking about that because it is true. I mean, I walk around with stains, and Haley goes, 'You've got a stain on your shirt.' I go, 'Exactly. Let's go out.' But I want her to know that flawed is beautiful, that broken crayons still color, like all the things that we need," she shared.

Kotb shares Haley with her former fiancé Joel Schiffman, as well as daughter Hope, 4.

Earlier this week, Kotb and her co-host Jenna Bush Hager opened up about the guilt they experience when missing their kids' events.

“My daughter had something today at school that I missed,” Kotb said. “And I was thinking about that, missing things, because I have missed things. Because our shift is so weird and they do all the things in the morning.”

“No, I know ... I’ve missed everything,” Bush Hager, 42, replied.

Kotb agreed, saying, “We’ve all missed everything. But then I try to remember that our parents missed many things.”
