Home Cooks Are Making Sacrifices — Tell Us The Meals You’ve Cut Out Due To Sky-High Grocery Prices

These days, if I need a laugh-cry, I don't need to watch Barbie or The Office finale. I just go to the supermarket and look at food prices. According to the USDA, food prices (the all-food Consumer Price Index) are up over 23% since 2020. We are ALL strained by inflation and making sacrifices because of it. Replacing ground beef with canned beans in recipes and opting for frozen over fresh produce, we are making changes to our home cooking habits left and right. Some of us have even stopped making certain dishes altogether because the cost is just. Too. High.

So, I want to hear from other home cooks and commiserate: What meals do you miss making because the cost of ingredients is too high now?

Maybe, like me, you mostly eat vegetarian during the week and only cook meat when you have guests or want to treat yourself. Do you miss making steak fajitas or some other meaty dish for yourself without blowing your grocery budget?

Maybe you once made scrambled eggs and pancakes every weekend with your family, but have started skipping the scramble because egg prices have become astronomical.

Whatever the dish you miss is, we want to hear about it. Tell us about how your food consumption and cooking have changed recently due to inflation. What ingredients do you wish didn't have an exorbitant price? Share your thoughts in the comments or anonymously via this form. Your submission might just find its way into a future Tasty post!
