From BILLY hacks to KALLAX hacks to IVAR hacks, there are lots of IKEA shelving hacks out there that can make storage look stylish — including smaller hacks for individual floating shelves like the LACK and the MOSSLANDA.

DIYer Tamzin McGillen’s (@at_the_mcgillens) home office revamp includes an adorable IKEA MOSSLANDA revamp.

“Before becoming an office, this room was a playroom,” Tamzin says. “As our children have grown, they no longer use this space, and instead it became a junk room, so we wanted to give it a purpose.” Tamzin and her husband share the space, and each half is decorated differently — hers with a whimsical floral look.

New wallpaper and paint give the office an energy boost.

Tamzin decked the walls with floral wallpaper from Graham & Brown and she used soft pink paint (in the shade August) from Graham & Brown, too.

“I thought long and hard about the wallpaper and colors in this room and feel like it really reflects my design aesthetic,” Tamzin says. “I feel like I have really mastered wallpapering now, so I was really pleased with how well I was able to wallpaper the small rectangular alcove.”

The soft pink paint isn’t the only pop of paint in the room: The baseboard is a coral color (Graham & Brown’s Aloha), and Tamzin used the leftover sample can on a picture frame and her MOSSLANDA shelf in the room.

The IKEA MOSSLANDA shelf hack is completely adorable.

“I was really happy that I was able to upcycle the IKEA shelf. I spent £20 [about $25] on the scallop trim, which I feel was a great price for the upcycle, as it cost less than a new shelf,” Tamzin says.

She glued the trim onto the shelf and painted over the entire thing for a statement-making punch of pink. Tamzin’s best DIY advice is to “be brave with color and pattern, and choose things that bring you joy.” Her office certainly is colorful and cheery.
