Home of the Week: This $28 Million Compound in Hawaii Serves Up Panoramic Views of the Kona Coast

One of Hawaii’s most spectacular oceanfront estates can now be yours for $28 million.

Even though many lifelong residents of the Big Island may not know of the ultra-private property along the Kona Coast, which lies at the end of a hidden road along the historic Ha’ikaua Peninsula in Keauhou Bay, the Ha’ikaua Point Estate is rooted in history. In ancient times, Keauhou Bay was a gathering place for Hawaiian Ali’i (chiefs) and likely hosted gatherings and ceremonies conducted by Hawaiian kings. Back in the day, only Ali’i were allowed to visit Ha’ikaua Point, and the area once played host to prominent Hawaiian historical figures and royalty, including King Kamehameha I and King Kalakaua. The point, protected via an offshore reef, was a strategic location that allowed the chiefs to gather and observe the ocean, facilitate communication, and maintain a connection to other parts of the island.

Today, this 1.5-acre slice of paradise is the ultimate compound for those seeking a multi-generational legacy estate or a vacation home with plenty of room for hosting family and friends. The property is being sold fully furnished, including the owners’ art collection. Adding to the appeal, the peninsula location means total privacy.

Ha’ikaua Point Estate
There are four homes across the 1.5-acre property.

Ha’ikaua Point Estate sits along the craggy, lava-rock coastline and offers 270-degree ocean and island views with more than 600 feet of ocean frontage and private water access. Nestled within the lush grounds are four residences: Hale Iki, Hale Hana, Hale Aloha, and Hale Kai Po A’i. The various homes were acquired by the seller over ten years, and altogether, they offer a collective 9,000 square feet of living space. The homes are conveniently near each other, but each has privacy thanks to lush foliage and mature trees.

The largest residence, Hale Kai Po A’i, is perched near the point and offers three bedrooms and four bathrooms, plus two additional powder rooms. Designed with traditional Hawaiian materials and decor, the two-story home has far-reaching ocean views, especially from a spacious covered patio with ample seating as well as a dining area for enjoying al fresco meals.

Nearby are two smaller oceanfront bungalows; the 786-square-foot Hale Iki has one bedroom, a loft, and two bathrooms, while the substantially larger 1,716-square-foot Hale Aloha has just one bedroom but three bathrooms plus a two-car porte cochère. The final building, Hale Hana, is less a guest house than a communal space that spans 1,360 square feet with an office, a media room, and a four-car garage. However, several rooms are easily converted into additional bedrooms.

The sellers built out the entire property with meticulous detail and the strongest and finest materials. Some consider the main residence to be built like a yacht to withstand the sun and salt.

Parts of the proceeds will go towards the Jonathan Dale Miller Foundation, which the owners started in 1999 for their grandson, who was diagnosed with a rare, terminal brain disease. The foundation supports Hawaii’s youth and individuals from underserved communities.

Ha’ikaua Point Estate is listed with Rob Kildow of Hualalai Realty and Kurtis Becker at Hawai’i Global Luxury Group.
