As far as summer makeup trends go, it likely can be one (or both) of two ways: bright pops of colour on the eyes, lip and cheek or the natural, no-makeup look we all know and love. Whatever you chose, the solid foundation of a good summer look starts with healthy, dewy skin. And while achieving a believable hydrated-looking glow (especially sans the heat and sweat) is easier said than done, we continue to be inspired by the no-makeup makeup queen herself, Meghan Markle.

Whether she’s making a public appearance, walking down the aisle or taking a Zoom call, there’s no denying that the Duchess of Sussex has nailed this elegant and laid-back, signature look.

Luckily for us, Meghan Markle’s makeup artist, Ruby Hammer, shared details on the Duchess’s most recent video call look with Smart Works — which didn’t require the “touch up my appearance” feature on Zoom.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the makeup artist revealed the secret to achieving the Duchess’s “glowy” on-camera display, giving royal lovers the breakdown on how to achieve Markle’s appearance — which just so happens to be “similar to how she had her finish on her wedding day.”

According to Hammer, Markle wore a base of tinted moisturizer, along with a full-coverage concealer under her eyes.

While the all-over combination offered medium to full coverage, it was still “light enough so you can see her freckles” but “not too made-up.” (BTW, Markle or her makeup artists have said in the past that she uses Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and Yves Saint Laurent All-Over Brightening Pen.)

As for Meghan’s a bit of bronze and colour, she added a “healthy bit of blush” on to the apple of the cheeks and followed by by a light dusting of translucent powder on her entire face, which Hammer says is “the quickest way to look polished and professional.”

And because we can’t ignore Meghan’s D.I.Y. contouring, we can’t help up but think of Dior Backstage Contour Palette ($59). On her wedding day, she kept her makeup natural and classic with this blendable and versatile contour palette.

Designed for customized intensity, this contour palette offers two beige and bronze highlighting shades with concentrated shimmery pigments that are easy-to-blend for a seamlessly luminous finish. It also contains two ultra-fine, matte shades that are made for sculpting and defining the shape of the face without leaving any harsh lines.

According to Hammer, Markle also wore several layers of mascara and groomed her eyebrows, which she slightly filled in.

“Meghan’s eyes look really awake and alert, which is in part down to the brows and also the fact that Meghan has two or three layers of mascara on,” Hammer explained.

Light and fresh, Meghan’s signature look is perfect for summer!
