How Hugh Jackman Knew His Wife Was the One

From Town & Country

Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, have been together for nearly 22 years - and they're still one of the cutest couples in Hollywood, which is no easy feat.

But we recently learned that their love has been strong since the very beginning of their relationship. In a new interview with Today.com, Jackman said there was one specific thing that taught him Furness was the love of his life.

For the actor, it all came down to feeling comfortable around Furness, even when he let his guard down. "When you're dating, you literally put on the best version of yourself," he said. "How do you transition from that person to actually truly being yourself? The tracksuit pant version of yourself."

When it comes to his relationship with Furness, he felt that comfortable immediately when they met on the set of the Australian drama Correlli in 1995. "Until you feel that comfortable with your partner, you don't really know if you're right together. So literally from day one, Deb and I had that feeling," he said. "It was like a relief. I could just be myself. I am not saying we don't ever dress up or impress each other, but being comfortable is a key."

The couple got together long before Jackman became a household name. In fact, Furness was the star when they met in their native Australia, and so she set some ground rules for their relationships and careers in entertainment. "We are not going to spend more than two weeks apart, and we are not going to work at the same time if we don't have to financially. So, one of us is always there to support the other," Jackman said. "And we have maintained that for … well, next month is 22 years."
