I tried 5 viral Amazon hair stylers for the perfect at-home blowout — and they're all under $150 | My honest review

Looking to get that fresh-from-the-salon look at home? One of these tools stood out above the rest.

When it comes to doing my hair, I prefer styles that require minimal effort and skill — I'm no hairdresser, after all. That said, I've been on a mission to find an affordable tool that helps me achieve the perfect at-home blowout.

My search led me to Amazon — where I purchased five viral hair stylers, all under $150. I was looking for one that was easy to use, delivered the style I wanted (ideally lasting all day), tamed frizz and most importantly, didn't fry my hair.

For context, I'd say my hair is relatively fine, but I have a good amount of it. While it's not overly difficult to style, it tends to fall flat quickly, and frizz is definitely a struggle. Keep reading to see which ones I would recommend to a friend (since we're all friends here) and which tool came out on top.

L'ANGE HAIR Le Duo Grande 360° Airflow Styler

After a couple of attempts, I got the hang of creating a uniform loose curl with this iron.

Pros
  • Sleek
  • Long-lasting
  • Various styling options
  • Built-in fan
  • Heats up quickly
  • Adjustable temperature
Cons
  • Learning curve
  • Frizz control

This curling iron meets straighter meets airflow styler is a hair tool unlike I've ever tried before. It features floating titanium plates, cooling with air vents that can be switched on or off, rounded edges for curling ease and heat up to 430°F.

I'm a sucker for cute packaging, so I was pretty excited when I unboxed this. It has a sleek, modern design and comes in the prettiest shade of pink — definitely a hair tool I wouldn't mind leaving on display.

First impressions aside, I was pleasantly surprised by its features. I've never used a tool that cools your hair while styling, but it really does help lock everything in place (and I'm talking all day long).

Once I got the hang of it, I found it could create everything from loose waves to tight curls. The curved design made curling easier to control and didn't leave any kinks.

When it comes to creating an effortless-looking blowout with this tool, it almost works too well. At first, my curls were a lot tighter than I wanted, and due to its cooling feature, they were set into place and not going anywhere. But with a little practice, I figured out how to get a looser wave.

As someone who struggles with frizz, I found it a bit tricky to keep flyaways under control — especially at my roots. It's worth noting that there was a learning curve when using this hair styler. Whereas most straighteners sit open, this one is clamped shut, which isn't anything major, but it did feel a little unnatural at first.

I was quite pleased with the results of this $20 hair curling brush.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Heats up quickly
  • Great results
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Timely
  • Hair pulling
  • Non-adjustable heat
$20 (was $30) at Amazon

This curling brush is designed to make curling your hair super easy. The bristles grab your hair as you curl, making you less likely to burn your fingers (unlike with regular curling wands). It heats up in just 30 seconds, has a 1.25-inch barrel and claims to leave your hair looking shiny and healthy without the damage.

It's great for those of us who aren't pros at styling hair (ahem, me). It's super easy to use and leaves a nice, subtle wave — perfect for adding texture and volume. I like to section my hair and brush the tool through, kind of like I would with a round brush when giving myself a blowout, minus the blow dryer and damp hair.

As someone who's always rushing, I love how fast it heats up. It's become my go-to when I need a refresh on second-day hair.

As user-friendly as this hair tool is, it still takes time to do your whole head from start to finish. It's one of those things where you put in a lot of effort to look effortless.

With my fine, frizzy hair, I had some flyaways near my roots that the tool had trouble taming, but a little extra hairspray would do the trick.

In terms of damage, I think any product with heat is going to be damaging. I always make sure to use heat protection, no matter what. I also had to be careful near where the handle meets the barrel because some strands would get caught in that spot.

I love that this tool dries and styles my hair at the same time.

Pros
  • Multifunctional
  • User friendly
  • Heat and cooling settings
  • Tames frizz
Cons
  • Subtle results
  • Pulling
  • Loud

The Revlon One-Step Root Booster is made to dry, lift your roots, and style your hair all in one go. It uses Ionic technology to help reduce frizz and static, leaving your hair shiny. It also has low and high heat settings, plus a cooling setting to lock in your style.

Any time I can cut down on my morning routine, I'm a happy camper. I love that this tool dries and styles my hair simultaneously. I run the brush through my hair in sections, curling the strands as I go. My hair is done in about 10 to 15 minutes.

It gives an effortless wave and natural volume with barely any effort. I also noticed my hair was less frizzy using this tool than with my regular hair dryer.

As always, I use a heat protectant and a little hairspray, and the style lasted throughout the day.

I really liked this tool, and I don't have a ton of negative thoughts. That said, if I'm looking for more defined curls, I'd probably go for one of the other options since this one gives a really natural, subtle blowout. To get the most volume, I'd also recommend adding some mousse.

Like with most round brushes, I found there was some tugging, but I learned how to use it without it pulling at my hair too much.

Although this product is designed for straightening, it was also able to add texture and wave.

Pros
  • Adjustable heat settings
  • Included brush, clips and heat glove
  • Fast results
  • Innovative design
Cons
  • Less control
  • Limited styling capabilities
$45 (originally $70) at Amazon

This straightening comb is what it sounds like — a hot tool with a comb-like design, made to straighten while adding volume to the hair. Its adjustable heat settings range from 170℃ to 210℃, and it heats up in just 20 to 40 seconds. It also comes with a mini brush, two clips and a heat-protectant glove.

I won't lie — I was a little intimidated by this hot tool at first. But it turned out to be way more user-friendly than I expected.

As for straightening, it gets the job with ease. I just part my hair and run the comb through section by section. Even though it's marketed as a straightener, I maneuvered it to add little flicks to the ends of my hair for that blowout look.

As much as I loved this tool for straightening, I'd still reach for one of the other gadgets if I wanted a proper blowout. Because of its one-sided comb design, it was trickier to create actual waves. I also noticed some kink marks if I held it in one spot for too long.

You can create any style from tight curls to loose waves with this Multi-Styler.

Pros
  • Long-lasting results
  • Various styling capabilities
  • Heat settings
  • Curved disk design
Cons
  • Learning curve
  • Kinks
  • Pulling
$47 at Amazon

This hot tool has twisted plates and a rounded design to easily switch between curls, beachy waves or sleek, straight styles. It heats up to 450°F and comes with a heat control sensor, which helps prevent overheating and protects your hair from damage or colour fading (however, this can be turned off).

I was really excited to try the Remington Pro Multi-Styler and see how it worked for me. Once I got the hang of the technique, I could create all kinds of curls and waves. And my hair actually held the style all day — no midday touch-ups needed.

I like that I could adjust the heat, and unlike using a straightener to curl, I didn't have to twist as much to get the look I wanted. Plus, I noticed way less frizz and flyaways while using it.

I'll admit, it took me a minute to nail the technique — I kept making my curls too tight! But that's more of a user-error thing. I'm no hair expert, just a gal trying to get a great at-home blowout.

One thing I found tricky was switching sides. Because of the twist design, styling my left side felt a lot easier than my right. Also, you really do have to keep the motion smooth while using it, or you'll end up with kinks. And I did notice it tugged at my ends a bit when pulling all the way through.

These viral hair tools are great hair-styling options, all with their own strengths and weaknesses. But when it comes to mastering the at-home blowout, one tool stood out for me — and spoiler alert, it happens to be the most affordable option.

The PHOEBE 1.25-inch Thermal Brush is my top pick. As someone who has limited skill in the hair styling department, I found this tool gave the most fool-proof results with the least amount of technique. That said, it's still a little timely to use, but all great things in life take time.

Coming in second place is Revlon's One-Step Root Booster, a lifesaver on hair-wash mornings when you need to get out the door fast. Third would be the L'ANGE Airflow Styler, which is great for a more polished, long-lasting blowout. In fourth place, the Remington Pro Multi-Styler gave pretty results but had a bit of a learning curve. And finally, the TYMO Hair Straightener Brush is still a solid tool but not the best for achieving that voluminous, bouncy blowout I was aiming for.
