Iggy Azalea accuses fan who said she should 'model more' of 'objectifying and silencing women'
Iggy Azalea is a divisive figure in the music industry, with many accusing her of appropriating black culture. But if you think the Australian rapper might back down or find a new career, you’re sorely mistaken.
One fan found that out the hard way after praising a racy new photo shoot featuring the “Black Widow” performer and commenting, “Iggy Azalea needs [to] leave the mic and model more.”

The tweet — which fetched 48,000 likes — may have been intended as a compliment, but Azalea herself didn’t see it that way. She promptly fired back a fiery response to the poster, accusing her of trying to shut women up.
Stop telling women
“Look pretty & stop having a voice”
in 2018.
You may not like my music but many do.
next time you give a back handed compliment, try not to make it one that looks like you’re low key into objectifying & silencing women.
Its gross. https://t.co/IaR9ByE14s— IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) May 3, 2018
Her rant got mixed reactions. Many accused Azalea of overreacting and noted that the poster had the right to not enjoy her music.
Girl…it's not that deep. She didn't come for women…she came for you…she told you to stop music. Not all women.

Many as the 16 people buying your music ? You’re thinking too much, we don’t wanna silence you we just sayin that you look way better than you sound MUSICALLY ♂️

You’re looking way too far into this I think. I don’t think you should stop making music, but I don’t think this person implied you should stop having a voice. And this person liking your modeling instead of your music doesn’t mean they’re objectifying and silencing women.

Modeling is also a well-established career. Learn how to take a compliment, considering the rarity of the occasion.

But other fans cheered the rapper as a “feminist queen” and commented that female musicians are often expected to portray a sexy image, which then defines them. Azalea’s statement is a reminder that women can be powerful and pretty, her supporters claim.
Thank you for taking the time to express how many women feel! ❤️❤️

Girl power or overreaction? Either way, the message is clear: Don’t come for Iggy Azalea.
