Imaan Hammam Kicked Off New York Fashion Week with Victoria's Secret
Imaan Hammam has always been an admirer of the magic behind Victoria's Secret.
"I remember being a very young girl watching the show every year live on TV and I remember just setting the date and it would always be on New Year's in Amsterdam," the supermodel tells Harper's Bazaar of her earliest memory of the lingerie brand. "And I would always watch it and be so amazed to see Naomi, Gisele, Adriana, Candice—all of these incredible, beautiful strong ladies."
Now, thanks to the upcoming Victoria's Secret World Tour set to stream on Prime Video on September 26, Hammam is now herself a part of the legendary angel crew. Alongside her idols, Hammam joins modern day catwalk stars such as Gigi Hadid, Paloma Elsesser, Hailey Bieber, Devyn Garcia and more in the soon-to-stream feature event. Part fashion show, part documentary, the special marks Victoria’s Secret’s first return to our screens since its final televised runway show in 2018.
"[Being a part of the World Tour] was beautiful. I was really happy to see all the girls," she continued. "It has been an ongoing event and collaboration and it's been so beautiful and fruitful to see it all come together. We were all very excited and proud of what we created together!"
Ahead of the film's premiere, Hammam joined the rest of the World Tour cast to kick off New York Fashion week with a special screening event that shared a sneak peek at the upcoming project. For the night, Hammam wore a two-piece leather set designed by the Victoria's Secret team that she also models in the film.
"I was really excited about wearing the look from the film. It was designed for me and has a leather skirt with a bra top and it’s super cool," the model explains. "I wore boots with it and made it into a punk rock look—but make it hot!"
While VIP attendees of the kickoff event were able to receive a sneak peek at 12 minutes of the upcoming film, Hammam can't wait for the world to see the rest. The brand has evolved over the years after all and Hammam views Victoria's Secret as being synonymous with "equality and coming together."
"Viewers should takeaway the fact that women are more than just an image," she says. "We are powerful and breaking so many barriers during this time specifically—including all the ladies that are a part of this show. This film is something that hasn’t been done and hope it shows that everyone should be celebrated."
