Himanshu Verma is an art curator based out of Delhi. He also happens to be a man who enjoys wearing sarees.

“I have always enjoyed the way a saree falls on my body,” Verma tells Buzzfeed. “It has been widely considered a feminine garment, but I never put it like that. I just wore it because I felt great wearing it.”

On Verma’s Facebook page, aptly named Saree Man, he not only posts images of himself in the colourful, flowing garments, but also promotes the Saree Festival, which his company Red Earth runs each year in Delhi.

“The Saree Festival attempts to be this unalloyed, all pervasive love affair with the drape, in bringing together the vast richness of styles, materials, traditions, techniques, experiments, vocabularies, sensibilities, that can all achieve fruition under the never ending swirl of the Saree,” states the website for the festival.

Though some have questioned Verma for wearing what’s traditionally been considered women’s clothing, he says he’s not trying to make any sort of statement.

“I have never worn them to make a statement, but it certainly would help to change the mindset that it is only for women. It is for everyone,” he says.
