Inside FOG Design+Art’s 10th Anniversary Preview Gala
On Wednesday, January 17, San Francisco’s FOG Design+Art fair celebrated its 10th anniversary with a preview gala at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture, which also served as an introduction to FOG FOCUS, a new invitational design showcase of works by up-and-coming artists.
Benefitting the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s education and exhibition programs, the opening-night event, themed “A Love Letter to San Francisco,” offered a sneak peek at the 46 exhibitors from around the globe including several first-time participants: AGO Projects from Mexico City, Galerie Max Hetzler from Berlin, and Marianne Boesky Gallery from New York among them. Returning exhibitors included Berggruen Gallery, Fraenkel Gallery, Jessica Silverman, and Micki Meng Gallery—all from San Francisco, Gallery FUMI from London, Lebreton from Monte Carlo, Gió Marconi from Milan, Marc Selwyn Fine Art from Beverly Hills, and New York’s Pace Gallery.
In an adjacent building, the nine inaugural FOG FOCUS participants included Crèvecœur from Paris, CULT Aimee Friberg from San Francisco, Johansson Projects from Oakland, and Commonwealth and Council from Los Angeles. Accompanying the exhibitions during the four-day program were the fair’s FOG Talks, a curated series of discussions that explore issues around art, design, and technology in our contemporary world, as well as an invitation-only luncheon in honor of fair founder Stanlee Gatti who has happily settled into an active advisory role along with former committee member Katie Paige.
The event’s honorary co-chairs, Randi and Bob Fisher and Diana Nelson and John Atwater—along with FOG Steering Committee members Douglas Durkin, Brittany Pattner, Sarah Wendell Sherrill, and Susan Swig—were joined by designers, artists, collectors, curators, philanthropists, and aficionados from across the Bay Area: Vanessa Getty, Lisa and Doug Goldman, Brandi Hudson, Rochelle Nadhiri, Maria Manetti Shrem, Dede Wilsey, Todd Traina, Paul Pelosi, Yves Behar and Sabrina Buell, Chris Bedford, Neal Benezra, Ella Qing Hou, Noz Nozawa, Shirley Robinson, Maryam Muduroglu, Alka and Ravin Agrawal, Allison Speer, Christine and Pierre Lamond, Christine Suppes, Sobia and Nadir Shaikh, Penny Coulter, Laura Sweeney, Sonya Yu, and Lauren Goodman.
