Inside red carpet stylist Alexandra Mann's eclectic upcycled home on the Kent coast
Take a look around costume designer and red carpet stylist Alexandra Mann's home on the Kent coast. A masterclass in resourcefulness and creativity, she seamlessly blends design pieces from different eras to create a fun and characterful space.
Driven by budget constraints and sustainability, each room has been shaped by her savviness for shopping secondhand. Despite only moving in with a wine fridge, the galley kitchen has been transformed into a fully functional space filled with character, including salvaged iroko cabinets, the back of a church pew, and old school gym equipment.
The eclectic open-plan living and dining room is filled with auction finds and bargain pieces that have been completely reimagined. A marble slab, snapped up for £8, has been fixed onto a wine box that was painted red by Alexandra and now serves as a coffee table. A Victorian cabinet holds stacks of magazines, while a rope-wrapped chair picked up in Spitalfields Market seems to have accidentally influenced Alexandra's colour palette throughout the rest of the room. The finishing touch is a fully functional barber's pole which adds plenty of theatrical flair.
As you go up the red carpet-covered stairs, the colours take a more muted form with Peignoir by Farrow & Ball in the bedroom and bathroom, complemented by calming hues of pink and blue. A silk rug from a trip to Morocco makes a distinctive bed throw, while one of Alexandra's favourite repurposed items is found in the bathroom – an Art Deco glass pendant, upturned to be used as a basin.
