'Wait, what?' Social media confused by $335 earring designed to look like a price tag

The internet is left baffled by a strange and deceiving single earring by luxury French fashion house, Maison Margiela.

Appropriately dubbed as the ‘White & Gold Single Tag Earring’, this unique piece of jewelry features white calfskin and gold-tone brass to resemble, well, a tag holding a pair of regular of gold hoop earrings. They look exactly like the kind you’d find at H&M but without come with a hefty price-tag of $335- and lots of confusion.

And while the pair is currently on sale for $114 at Ssense, Twitter fans still aren’t convinced on the idea.

A viral tweet, with over 123,000 shares, in reaction to the earring says, “*online shopping* Oo this would be a nice basic set of earrings *swipes through photos* wait what.”

But while this statement earring is showcased on the model with the intention to wear on one ear, the gold hoops are in fact, detachable can be worn as a regular pair.

The entire look is typical avant-garde Maison Margiela, if you ask us, and not the first strange earrings we’ve come across this year. Who can forget Balenciaga’s $665 Safety XL Earrings?
