What are Jack-Jack's powers? Here's what we know about the "Incredibles" baby
You can keep all your Batmans, Supermans and Wonder Womans. The most powerful superhero alive is way cooler than anything Marvel or DC Comics has churned out over the years. He’s strong, capable of teleporting and shapeshifting and can even shoot lasers from his eyes. Who am I talking about, you ask? None other than Incredibles superstar Jack-Jack.
Yes, the baby Jack-Jack. The one and the same. Ever since I sat in the movie theater as the original Disney/Pixar film ended, and the credits began to roll back in November 2004, I was obsessed. All throughout the movie, Jack-Jack was constantly underestimated. His big sister Violet complained about their family not being normal because of their super powers, and pointed out that Jack-Jack was the only “normal” one in the bunch and he wasn’t even toilet trained. His parents Bob and Helen — aka Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl — always maintained that their newborn baby didn’t have any powers. But, unbeknownst to his whole family, while they were off fighting Syndrome, Jack-Jack gave his babysitter Kari a hell of a time while in her care. That poor teenage babysitter had no idea what she was in for. Because Jack-Jack is the most powerful super alive.
And the best part is, his family still doesn’t know! By the end of Incredibles, they were still under the impression that he was a normal baby without powers. And based on the trailer for the new Incredibles 2, the sequel picks up right away after the first movie ended with the Underminers attacking during Dash’s track race. The first teaser trailer for Incredibles 2 showed Jack-Jack using his laser vision to cut the “I” logo into “II” with Bob joyfully cheering, “You have powers! Yeah baby!”
Little does he know those powers are about to be the bane of his existence, since Elastigirl takes center stage in Incredibles 2 while Bob has to stay home and take care of the kids. With everyone’s limited understanding of Jack-Jack’s seemingly endless abilities plus the stress of living a normal, non-super life, Bob is about to face the biggest challenge of his life: Being a stay-at-home dad!
But I can’t wait until Incredibles 2 comes out later this year to find out everything Jack-Jack can do, so here’s a rundown of all the powers we’ve seen him display so far. Essentially a jack-of-all-trades (turns out he was very aptly named!), Jack-Jack can do basically anything…and he probably has no idea what he’s even doing. It’s absolute chaos mixed with adorable baby giggles.
He can shoot lasers out of his eyes: See teaser trailer above. Also useful to note that his lasers can be deflected with a mirror, so it would be good to always have one on hand.
He has inhuman strength: From gnawing through solid wood bars to picking up 10x the amount of his own body weight, this baby’s got muscles, y’all.
He can teleport: This one is going to be problematic for anyone trying to watch him, like his babysitter … or his own father.
He can levitate: This is when his babysitter Kari started to realize Jack-Jack was no ordinary baby.
He can spontaneously combust: Syndrome did not see that one coming!
He can turn himself into heavy metal: Very handy if you’re being flown into the sky by a malevolent kidnapper.
He can vibrate: Not sure when this power would come into play, but hey, he’s got it!
He can reverse his own gravitational pull: Now this one is nuts. He can sit on the ceiling but pour his bottle out onto Kari and the milk actually falls on her while his own gravity is reversed!
He can phase through walls: Mix that will levitating and he’s officially the hardest baby to take care of.
He can become literally a devil monster: We’ve seen him do this twice now, once while attacking Syndrome and once in the Incredibles 2 trailer attacked Bob after he threatened to stop giving him cookies. You guys, Jack-Jack might actually be a fledgling villain, now that I think about it …
Incredibles 2 hits theaters June 15th.
