Jamie Otis gets real with her fans about her post-baby body after having twins: 'This is what one week postpartum looks like'
The "Married at First Sight" alum welcomed twins Hawkins Tyler and Huxley James with husband Doug Hehner.
Jamie Otis is getting candid about her postpartum life. On Wednesday, the reality TV star shared a video to Instagram praising her postpartum body a week after welcoming twin sons, Hawkins and Huxley, with husband Doug Hehner. The former "Married at First Sight" star and mom of four shared an empowering message to followers in a bid to normalize the changes bodies go through after giving birth.
"Keeping it real," Otis said. "Postpartum is still beautiful even when you still have the belly and you're leaking in every crevice." She added, Iif you're pregnant now, this is what one week postpartum looks like" as on-screen text.
The 38-year-old, who gave birth to twins naturally on Sept. 18, told fans she's "feeling better each day" and spoke candidly about the struggles many women face after childbirth.
"The pressure for women to snap back to pre-pregnancy size after growing a precious baby in their womb for nine months is insane," Otis wrote in her caption. "The strain to look 'presentable' right after birthing a tiny human and then waking every two to three hours to nourish them is awful. The stress to get back to 'normal life' while dealing with the pain from stitches, hemorrhoids and constant nipple stimulation is debilitating."
Otis said she "cringed" when she saw her postpartum belly after giving birth to her now 7-year-old daughter Henley. After welcoming her son, Hendrix, four years ago, Otis said she was determined to look at her postpartum body differently.
"The second time around, I told myself I wouldn't let society dictate how I feel about my body after carrying and growing a 9 lb 4 oz baby," she said. "I gained 65 pounds with Hendrix and I knew it would take me longer to lose the weight. I told myself to just embrace it."
Otis said she was able to give herself grace while raising her children and eat without restriction, buy bigger clothes if her wardrobe no longer fit and love her body at every size — instead of believing she had to lose weight to feel beautiful.
"I hope to keep growing on this journey and inspire women that they can feel good about themselves even if their body has changed in shape/size," she wrote. "We're still beautiful. We're still worthy. We're still loved."
Fans praised Otis for her candid video and empowering message about embracing bodies throughout every stage of life.
"Women's bodies need [to be] celebrated. So miraculous what we can do," one person wrote.
"You're so relatable and I feel that's a huge part of why people enjoy your family," another chimed in.
"We are forever postpartum. Our bodies deserve love and kindness and it's so good to see you reminding people of that," someone shared.
