Jane Fonda has spoken of her cosmetic surgery regrets, admitting she’s ‘not proud’ of her facelift.
The 84-year-old actor addressed her surgery in an interview with Vogue, saying that if she could go back in time she doesn't know that she would have it done.
"Now, I don't know if I had it to do over if I would do it. But I did it," she says. "I admit it, and then I just say, okay, you can get addicted. Don't keep doing it."
"But then as I'm saying that, I'm thinking we all know a lot of women who are wealthy who've had all kinds of facelifts and things like that and they look terrible. I had a facelift and I stopped because I don't want to look distorted. I'm not proud of the fact that I had one."
Fonda is known for being upfront about her cosmetic tweaks and has spoken about her surgery on a number of occasions.
She admitted to The Guardian in 2015 that she wished she were "brave enough" to not to have plastic surgery.
In her Vogue interview, she stressed she wants young people to "stop being afraid" of ageing.
"I'm almost 85, but I don't seem that old," Fonda said. "So getting young people to stop being afraid of being old, helping people realise that just because you're a certain age doesn't mean you have to give up on life, give up on having fun, give up on having boyfriends or girlfriends, making new friends, or whatever you want to do."
The actor acknowledged her privileges when it comes to ageing, saying "I can afford the things that help make me continue to look young. That is true. Money does help. Good genes and a lot of money, as somebody once said."
So how does she stay so youthful? Fonda shared her secret to youth: “I stay moisturised, I sleep, I move, I stay out of the sun, and I have good friends who make me laugh.
"Laughter is a good thing too."
The fitness guru – famous for her home workout videos – stressed the importance of exercising and keeping fit.
"I come from a long line of depressed people," she told Vogue. "One of the ways that I avoid depression is through exercise. When I move, when I walk, when I exercise, the depression lifts."
"I walk a lot, and that helps me. The young never realise how important it is to keep your body strong because there’s nothing wrong with them. Their body works and they take it for granted. As you get older, you realise the importance of it."
When it comes to her diet, Fonda is conscious about what she eats. "I eat a fairly healthy diet. I have cut way back on red meat and I’ve cut back on fish because fish supplies are dwindling. I eat vegetables. I eat salads. I eat fresh food. I’m just careful about what I eat."
But the most important thing she does for her health is make sure she gets enough sleep – eight or nine hours every night.
