Jennifer Aniston shared the workout routine that “transformed” her body at 55.
She also shared why she refuses to follow conventional rules around aging. “It’s all bullsh*t,” she said.
Her approach to wellness in general centers on compassion and gentleness.
New year, same gentle but effective workout routine for Jennifer Aniston. The Friends star recently revealed the workout that she says made a difference.
The 55-year-old is a longtime fan and spokesperson for Pvolve, a low-impact functional fitness program, and she’s sharing how it has “transformed [her] body” unlike any other exercise regimen she’s followed—which is crucial when it comes to her goal of aging healthfully.
“In all the workouts I’ve tried over the years, this one has transformed my body more than any of the others, and it’s a really enjoyable workout that I don’t feel intimidated by, that I don’t dread,” she explained to People. “I get excited, because I also know that if I’m not feeling 100%, if I only have 20 minutes in me, that’s all I do.... It meets you where you’re at, and I love that about it.”
As someone who witnessed the rigorous and sometimes painful nature of intense exercise crazes like aerobics, heated classes, intense cardio, and the like, Aniston is a big fan of the fact that Pvolve will “not break your body,” she said. “You can actually have gain with no pain.”

She continued: “I’ve never had this kind of definition. [These workouts] get into those micro little muscles that are underneath bigger muscles that you just don’t even know existed, so you’re really getting strong from the inside out.”
And strength is the “most important” takeaway from her movement these days, she told Allure. “If you lose muscle, your bones get brittle—osteoporosis. We fall down, we break a hip, and that’s a wrap,” she said.
The journey also is much easier when Aniston can have compassion for her body, regardless of its physical state—and she hopes others can do the same. “We’ve got to love our bodies. It’s doing the best it can. It’s been with us since the day we started, so we can’t be too hard on it,” she said.
That’s why she chooses to approach aging with “positivity and gratitude” above all. “We are still here. What’s the alternative?” she quipped. “I’m trying not to think about growing older. I try not to think about age. The world will always be there telling us what your age is and what women should do in society when you’re this or that.”
She’s following her own path and setting her own rules, and not just when it comes to exercise. “I think we’re realizing how people are so impressionable. It’s like, ‘Okay, well if they say this happens at this age, that’s what happens at this age.’ But then you go, ‘No! Who’s making these rules?!’ Our muscles are going to go limp as we get older? No, let’s keep them strong,” she said. “We can make our own rules. It’s all bullsh*t.”
