HGTV fans can count on Dave and Jenny Marrs for their heartfelt renovations, but the latest episode of Fixer to Fabulous might've been their most emotional makeover yet.

The couple had been in talks to work with Shelly Perry and her daughter Alexa to renovate their house, which previously belonged to Shelly's parents. But then 12 tornados hit their area of Northwest Arkansas in one night and the home suffered serious damage. Dave and Jenny were up to the new challenge and stepped in to both repair and update the home.

Jenny explained, "The thing that happens when a tragedy like this occurs is that kindness prevails and you just help each other. It's been hard but also really good."

The team worked to update the exterior, get rid of dark wood, and open up the floorplan, while honoring the family's connections to the property. Jenny incorporated antiques to keep it feeling warm and inviting, and added special details like ducks and basketweave patterns to pay homage to Shelly's parents. Dave explained, "The tough thing about these renovations is really trying to keep some of those memories while you're really updating everything else. I'm feeling really good about this one."

Dave was right to feel good about the renovation. Shelly and Alexa were overcome with emotions as they toured their Southern cottage. Shelly said, "The tornado essentially devastated the home, and now it's new and fresh but it's very familiar."

Jenny shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the project on Instagram. She wrote, "My goodness, this was emotional one. Our community suffered immense loss last May when tornadoes touched down all across town in the middle of the night. At the time, we had already been planning to renovate Shelly and Alexa’s home (that had belonged to Shelly’s parents - Alexa’s grandparents) but the scope of work changed drastically after the storm."

Her post continues, "This home held countless family memories and our job was to restore what had been lost and to bring back life and joy and light. It was a beautiful, tearful reveal day. Lots of hugs and reminiscing took place. And, it felt so good to give this well-loved home back to this beautiful mother-daughter duo."

If you missed the episode, you can stream it now on Max. Plus, Jenny shared all of the sources (including paint colors!) and more details on her website.
