Jessica Chastain just had a serious 'mermaid moment' on the Oscars red carpet
Jessica Chastain is no stranger to the Oscars red carpet. And despite rumours that the Best Actress frontrunner might skip the event, lo’ and beyond, she made it!
As the Oscars made the controversial call to cut certain categories during the live show, Chastain allegedly thought about skipping the red carpet in order to attend the Best Hair and Makeup category, which was one of the eight categories moved to an off-air presentation.
“I will absolutely be present when the makeup category is being called, and if that means I’m not doing press on the red carpet or ABC or whatever it is, then so be it,” Jessica shared on the Next Best Picture podcast.
Chastain added that “the most important thing for me is to honour the incredible artisans who work in our industry.”
"The Eyes of Tammy Faye" star found a way to do both, serving major mermaid vibes as she walked the red carpet in a sequinned ombré gown by Gucci. A bronze V-neck bodice faded into a stunning lilac-coloured skirt – that even included a dramatic ruffle at the bottom.
In the critically-acclaimed film, Chastain plays infamous televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. Bakker and her husband Jim (played by Andrew Garfield), become rich and famous before getting themselves into some serious legal hot water.
Although Chastain has some tough competition in the Best Actress category, going up against the likes of Olivia Coleman ("The Lost Daughter"), Penélope Cruz ("Parallel Mothers"), Kristen Stewart ("Spencer"), and Nicole Kidman ("Being the Ricardos"), fans agree that she’s already a winner on the red carpet.
“I have no words…this is YOUR night!” raved a fan on Instagram.
“I don’t even care if you win tonight or not,” wrote another fan. “This look deserves its own Oscar trophy!”
“This dress is serving mermaid vibes to the max...you are absolutely stunning!” commented another.
To complete her look, Chastain left her hair and makeup sleek and elegant — her fiery red locks were pulled into a high ponytail, which makeup artist Kristofer Buckle paired with a pink lip and roses gold eye shadow.
Buckle used a variety of products by Charlotte Tilbury, including the Super Cindy Hot Lips Lipstick and the Hollywood Flawless Eye Filter Palette.
"I know everyone's talking about Jessica's dress, but like can we appreciate her makeup tonight? Those lips tho!" commented a fan on Instagram.
"Love love love! Kristofer, your makeup is flawless as always," wrote another.
"All I wanna do is look like Jessica Chastain at the Oscars, like is that too much to ask?" raves another fan. "I'm gonna try to replicate this makeup look at work tomorrow:)."
