Jewel-Toned Hair Reigned on the Red Carpet at the 2024 Grammys
Every Grammy Awards ceremony brings with it a few guarantees: meme-able moments we’ll be discussing well into Monday, exceptional performances from the best in the biz, and the heart-racing, anxiety-inducing AOTY award portion of the show that’ll keep us at the edge of our (living room) seats. Most importantly—to us, that is—are all the beauty looks that will blaze the trail for subsequent award shows—and 2024 altogether.
The 2024 Grammys red carpet is underway and overwhelmingly ripe with stunning beauty that has the ELLE.com beauty team Slack revamping their mood boards. “Jewel tone hair is IN,” said beauty commerce editor Nerisha Penrose, following Dua Lipa and Kelly Osbourne’s red carpet appearance. Elsewhere on the carpet, the bang agenda is alive and well, as a few celebrities donned slicked-back hairstyles with stringy strands framing their face.
There might not be an official award for the best beauty of the night, but there are plenty of looks worthy of praise. Ahead, scroll through our absolute favorite looks of the night.
Jewel-Toned Hair
Planning to get a fresh dye job ahead of the spring season? Allow Dua Lipa’s ruby red tresses to inspire your next style. While Dua’s silver dress is a main character on its own, her effortlessly waved red hair adds a soft grunge edge to a the elegant gown. If amethyst is more your jam, take cues from Kelly Osbourne’s voluminous curls; her signature purple hair zhuzh up with even lighter amethyst-hued strands and barrel curled to achieve an old Hollywood swoop.

Piece-y Bangs
Bangs are for everyone, so long as you find a style that suits your face. However, Victoria Monet’s version is the perfect cheat code for a universally flattering bang style, one we’ve seen several times on tonight’s red carpet. An elevated take on the slicked-back bun, Victoria’s hair was pulled back into a sleek updo with just a few stringy pieces of hair falling down the side of her face.

'90s Brown
It looks like the ‘90s brown lip isn't going anywhere anytime soon—stars are giving brown lipsticks and lip liners lots of love even in 2024. Arya Starr’s eye-catching look was completed with a deep brown lip liner, a touch of pink lipstick, and a gloss to top it all off. Looking for something more one-and-done? Phoebe Bridgers went for the less-is-more approach with a single chocolate-y tone smoothed across her lips.

Windswept Hair
The mob wife aesthetic recently gave rise to over-the-top fashion and makeup, and hair is no different. Volume is the name of the game for Miley Cyrus’ gravity-defying mane tonight: she had her hair teased up Dolly Parton-style, while warm caramel highlights framed her face.
Classic Red Lip
While it’s no surprise that Taylor Swift showed up in her signature red lip to accessorize her black and white outfit (perhaps a nod to her upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department), many others, including Doja Cat, Kylie Minogue, and Laverne Cox, followed suit with crimson lips of their own. Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo and Lady London appeared to have paired their lipsticks with dark liners for a moody ombré effect.

Dramatic Smokey Eye
Clean girl makeup may have reigned supreme all of 2023, but we’re taking it up a notch this year. Fantasia Barrino Taylor brought the drama to the red carpet with a smoked out bottom lash line, a silvery metallic eyeshadow topper, and fluttery lashes—all of which perfectly complemented her striped gown.

French Manicure
The Parises went French tonight: Paris Jackson’s short squoval nails featured thin white tips and a barely there nude pink base. Meanwhile, Paris Hilton went for a more glamorous vibe—thicker tips accompanied her oval nails.

Blue Eyeshadow
We’re always looking to decades past for inspiration, and the blue eyeshadow that dominated in the ‘60s and ‘80s came back better than ever. Ellie Goulding’s sultry eye look employed an icy blue shadow blended all over her lids and a black eyeliner applied on both her lash line and waterline.
