Joe Biden’s Daughter Just Debuted a Fashion Collaboration — and the Former Veep Was There

Joe Biden has been keeping very busy since Vice President Pence took over his former position. He teamed up with his wife, Jill, in early February to launch the Biden Foundation — an organization promoting and sustaining the initiatives Joe worked for while in office. And the University of Pennsylvania recently announced that he will be taking on the Benjamin Franklin Presidential Practice professor position in its Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. Still, despite it all, the former veep has still made time to support his daughter Ashley and the cause she’s now championing.

Ashley recently partnered with Gilt to launch an exclusive collection of Made in the USA hoodies — which will benefit her organization, Livelihood — and dad was by her side.

At the launch party — which had a star-studded crowd, including the likes of Al Sharpton, Fran Drescher, Christian Siriano, and Olivia Palermo — the former VP spoke about his daughter’s new line. “I’m very proud of her,” he shared with E News. “She’s been trying to change the world since she was 3.”

The proceeds from Ashley’s collection will go directly to funding schools and job placement services, along with other community development initiatives, in a project that was influenced by her professional experience so far.

“Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked as a social worker and learned first hand that civic participation is an essential component of community development,” she said in a press release. “My goal with Livelihood is to celebrate that ethos with creative and innovative programs that directly impact local neighborhoods. I’m excited to launch this initiative with a hoodie design, created and sold in partnership with Gilt. I chose a hoodie because it is universal, was once ubiquitous with the Labor Movement and is currently symbolic of important social justice movements.”

Livelihood will kick off its work by focusing on education initiatives in Wilmington, Del. — where the Biden family hails from — and the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington, D.C.

Joe also voiced his support for the causes the Livelihood organization promotes. “I’ve been fighting for income equality for my entire career in public life, and I can tell you that, along with a tax code that reflects our mutual responsibility to each other, education and infrastructure are two in particular that are critical,” he told Bloomberg. “Good schools where kids can get an education that will set them up for a successful life and parks and communal spaces where families can send their kids and know they will come home safe are some of the fundamental building blocks of a strong community.”

The organization, which will invest each year in two communities that are undersourced, has also garnered support from a fellow Delaware native — Aubrey Plaza. The American comedian and actress appears alongside Biden in a number of promotional images for the hoodies.

“I believe Wilmington and surrounding communities in Delaware need help, and I want to get involved. I think Ashley is incredibly smart and I love her ideas. We both talked about our love for Wilmington and for Delaware,” Plaza said, in the press release. “I told her how some of the community programs in Wilmington influenced me as a child and helped me get to where I am today — namely, the Wilmington Drama League, a community theater, which allowed me to explore acting at a young age among other like-minded, aspiring artists. It’s places like these I want to support so they can change other people’s lives as well.”
