Joe Jonas Reportedly Filed For Divorce From Sophie Turner After Ring Camera Discovery
We’ve already had a few celebrity divorces this year – some more shocking than others! We may have been partly expecting Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth‘s divorce, as the couple were rumored to have been living separate lives for quite a while before they made their announcement on social media back in March. However, we were *not* expecting Joe Jonas, 34, and Sophie Turner, 27, to be headed for divorce, just four years after tying the knot in Las Vegas and France respectively.
Jonas filed for divorce from Turner on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023, in a petition that declared the marriage “irretrievably broken.” The couple have two children together – and from what we hear, an iron-clad prenup – and Sophie released the following statement the next day:
“Statement from the two of us. After four years of wonderful marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the Game of Thrones star wrote on an Instagram post on September 6th, with the comments section very sensibly turned off. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” she added.

Why Did Joe Jonas Hire A Divorce Lawyer?
The statement doesn’t seem to give too much away, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from turning ever since the news came out. As we only have rumors to go on, everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but here’s what some sources are saying.
According to TMZ, an insider who reportedly knows the Jonas Brothers musician alleged that he caught his wife – and the mother of his two children – “saying and/or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over.” Yikes!
Joe Jonas And Sophie Turner Reportedly Had Problems For Over Six Months
An insider reportedly told Page Six in a post that was published on September 5th that the couple had been having "many disagreements" for some time, and the "Do It Like That" singer tried to "salvage" their relationship for a while before seeking out a divorce lawyer. "It just kept building, and Joe finally reached a point where he felt that he had exhausted all options to salvage the marriage," the insider said.
"Divorce was a last resort for Joe. He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls," added the insider, in reference to their two daughters, Willa, 3, and their 14-month-old daughter whose name has not been revealed.
"An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year. There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported," the source added, which could suggest that things are a lot deeper than the alleged Ring doorbell footage.
TMZ also reported that the couple had been having problems for around six months, with their "different lifestyles" reportedly being a huge factor. "She likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles," one source reportedly told the pub. Another source echoed this, telling the Daily Mail on September 6th that Sophie was allegedly finally enjoying being "carefree," which she didn’t have much of a chance to be since meeting Joe at 20 years old and being pregnant with their two children.
"Sophie feels like she’s only just waking up to what her life and reality really is," the insider explained. "She became famous at a very young age, then married and had kids at a young age and never really had the teenage years of sleeping around and just having carefree fun with friends." They added: "She feels like her life has stalled after Game of Thrones and so has her personal life. Since the kids came along, she’s feeling trapped. She’s the only person in her tight friendship group who is married with two children."
Joe Jonas Addresses Split On Stage
Despite all of these rumors and alleged quotes, we don’t know what the whole truth is due to neither Joe nor Sophie providing many other details themselves. The "Only Human" musician did interestingly address the divorce during the Jonas Brothers' concert at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles over the weekend, and told fans: "It's been a crazy week. I just wanna say, look – if you don't hear it from these lips, don't believe it. OK?"
