Jourdan Dunn spills the contents of her beauty bag
Jourdan Dunn's relationship with beauty has evolved significantly since she was scouted by a modelling agency at the age of 15. Her motto today is to "set your own beauty standards", the 33-year-old shares in the latest episode of Inside My Beauty Bag, above – which means avoiding comparisons at all costs. "I feel like that's the biggest self-hating thing you can do," she continues.
Showcasing her new hairstyle – a super-short crop – Dunn reflects on the journey she's had with her hair. "I'm getting older now and I feel like it's time to embrace this new version of me that I feel is emerging," she says of the "empowering" cut.
Discussing how her profession has often presented Dunn's hair to her as "challenging" (with hairdressers backstage at shows "scared" of styling Afro texture), she's increasingly embraced her natural hair – something her routine reflects. As demonstrated, The Scalp Serum and The Satin Bonnet from The Steam Bar are non-negotiables on Dunn's wash days, while every night she sleeps on a silk pillowcase which is "very, very, very key".
The British supermodel uses beauty rituals in other empowering ways, she explores. "In a Black Caribbean family it was always celebrated to be more curvy. I had insecurities with it growing up and then going into the industry [my body shape] was celebrated, so the industry has helped me learn to appreciate my body and myself and my beauty." She honours it through her habitual body-care routine, which features dry brushing followed by the use of body scrubs, butters and oils. "I couldn't look at myself in the mirror naked," she shares, "now it's part of my ritual and I'm just embracing and loving what I'm seeing".
An ambassador for one of the world's biggest beauty brands, Charlotte Tilbury, Dunn has honed her make-up techniques, too. Her favourites which she keeps in her own beauty bag include the Beauty Light Wand in Pillow Talk Medium which offers "simple, easy" highlighting; the new Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm lipgloss that "plumps your lips"; and Charlotte's Magic Hydrator Mist – her "number one for hydrating".
A vision of radiance, clearly skincare is something Dunn takes very seriously. At home she employs the Lyma Laser – a device she was gifted at the Victoria Beckham show a year ago and has adored ever since. It's "good for toning, tightening; if you have any scars from acne it helps with the inflammation," she explains, adding that it comes at "a hefty price but it's very, very worth it". Professionally she visits aesthetics expert Sadaf Jaffari for advanced facials and Debbie Thomas, "the queen of lasers", for bespoke laser treatments.
