It's a busy day for royal health news. Shortly after Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton was hospitalized for an abdominal surgery, the National Health Service (NHS) just announced that the King will be treated in the hospital next week. The Palace said his condition is "benign."

"In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate," the NHS said. "His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation."

It is understood that King Charles wanted to share the details of his diagnosis, so as to encourage others who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked. The news of Charles's upcoming procedure was shared today because he has a series of meetings and events planned at Dumfries House in Scotland for tomorrow and Friday, which he now has to postpone in light of the upcoming surgeries.

It's as yet unclear when King Charles will return to public duties following his surgery.

When Kensington Palace shared news of Kate's abdominal surgery this morning, they did not share as many details as the NHS shared about King Charles's upcoming procedure. "The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate," Kensington Palace said. "She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."
