It may be 2023, but when it comes to textile design, it seems as though some brands are stuck in the past—and that’s a good thing, in our book! Brooklinen, the bed and bath linens company, just unveiled a charming new collection that takes cues from patterns that are centuries old.

The new launch includes two lines: Garden Patchwork and Sand Dollar, both of which feature hand-painted designs by Ruthie Osswald, a senior designer and product developer at Brooklinen. Osswald looked to 17th-century textile samplers when creating the new pieces, which include a sheet set, duvet cover and pillowcases available in both percale and sateen. These were used to demonstrate needlework skills, or to explore a new stitching pattern.

Osswald’s work for Brooklinen brings together a range of different sampler motifs, and renders them in vibrant watercolor—a seamless blend that feels both antique and contemporary.

The color palette, too, was intentional: “I painted Garden Patchwork and Sand Dollar with spring-ready colors and designs,” she says. “[These] evoke joyful optimism and bring the outdoors into the home.” While Garden Patchwork pieces together different green, purple and pink patterns into one bedding set, Sand Dollar opts for a more subdued and straightforward brown motif.

Naturally, all of the above is affordable first and foremost, with sheet sets starting at $149, duvet covers starting at $119, and pillowcases starting at $55. Keep in mind these new designs are limited, though, so snap them up while you can!
