While most celebrities are invited by designers to the Met Gala in exchange for modelling their clothes, Justin Bieber opted to wear a look by his own brand, Maison Drew, to the prestigious fashion fundraiser.

The 27-year-old singer arrived on the red carpet of the 2021 Met Gala "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" alongside his wife, Hailey Bieber. While Hailey kept things classic in a Saint Laurent column dress, Bieber wore a crisp white shirt and tie with a black tuxedo jacket and what fans are calling "awkwardly oversized" pants and customized Nike Air Force 1 sneakers.

"Why do his pants look like they're 11 sizes too big for him?" one person commented. "Why is the jacket cropped? Why did he pair this suit with a pair of Nike sneakers? I have so many questions."

"Hailey looks stunning as always. Can't say the same for Justin and his awkwardly oversized pants and Nike Air Force 1s," another chimed in. "Goes to show you that money can't buy taste."

Another person pointed out that the Bieber's failed to incorporate the theme into their ensembles.

"Imagine just having that much money and shows up like this at the Met Gala they didn’t even try to match the theme," they wrote.

While Bieber's look was heavily criticized, many praised the Canadian singer for wearing something "outside the box."

"I love the whole look. The pants, the shoes — everything! How does he make everything work?" someone else commented.

"Justin Bieber’s pants understand the assignment," another person tweeted.

"You both looked so gorgeous and elegant," someone else added. "Serving looks! I love how Justin always dresses outside of the box instead of being boring."

Bieber told Met Gala correspondent, actress Keke Palmer, that his red carpet look was part of a new branch of his fashion brand, Drew House.

"I think as I become more of an adult, things just [started] to evolve and change," he said. "I'm married now so I think things just become more adult now."
